Reviews
Perhaps, it’s possible that I underestimated myself but I found this book to be incredibly easy. These songs were easy to master upon sight reading. I spent a lot of time reading the reviews on this book because I wanted to add something new to my collection of piano music but I also wanted to be able to play it. I took lessons for 10 years when I was younger, but stopped taking lessons when I was about 18 and I am 28 now. Up until about 3 months ago, I didn’t have a piano/keyboard that I could regularly use but now I do and I wanted to start playing some awesome tunes again!I wish it was legal to take pictures of the music, just to give people an idea of the difficulty of the music before-hand. I am aware that easy piano is for the intermediate player, but this book could easily be played by someone a little less than intermediate, in my opinion. I also realize that this goes against what most of the reviewers have said about this book, be warned, if you have ever had the ability to play music as it was written and not an easier form of it, this book will be too easy for you! Even if you’re rusty by a few years.Basically what you’re looking at in terms of difficulty:-No more than 2 octaves above or below middle C-Simple time signatures and keys. Most songs are in the key of C with some accidentals thrown into the mix.-No more than a few notes played at a given time, mostly one note at a time. Minimal chords. The songs sound like what they’re supposed to be, but they also sound like they’re missing something. They’re too simplified sounding to sound like their actual counterpart. That being said, Dan Coates is one of the best arrangers out there. If you’re just starting to learn, but are beyond the 5 finger piano music this book would be an excellent cost effective choice. The songs are familiar and you could easily be plunking your way through these in no time. I’m just a little disappointed because I was led to believe that the music would be harder than it actually was.
